After graduating high school, Amy Macdonald was accepted into two universities, but took time off to write songs and record her demo, which included the song “This is the Life.” Amy Macdonald didn’t waste time; she sent her demo to several record labels and attracted the attention of Pete Wilkinson, the owner of record label Melodramatic Records. Wilkinson helped Amy Macdonald by polishing her demo, which was picked up by Vertigo Records and signed Amy up. In July 2007, her debut album “This is The Life” was released and sold over two million copies worldwide. Technically, Amy Macdonald’s first single was the track “Poison Prince,” but was only given a limited online release. Her first full single was the song “Mr. Rock and Roll,” which debuted at #12.
In 2007, Amy Macdonald promoted her album, performing in the U.S. and festivals in Europe, such as the V Fest, Glastonbury, T in the Park and Hyde. That same year, Amy Macdonald performed at Glasgow for the BBC special “Hogmanay Live” show and proved to the world that no tonsillitis can stop her from giving an outstanding performance. In August 2008, Macdonald released the song “Mr. Rock and Roll” in the American market. Her song “Youth of Today,” which she wrote when she was only 15, became the first-ever “Free Single of the Week” on the iTunes/Bebo program.
Since her debut on the music industry, Amy Macdonald has appeared as a performer on various shows, such as “Friday Night Project,” “Loose Women,” “This Morning,” “The Album Chart Show” and the France-based show “Taratata,” among others. Amy Macdonald has also won several awards, including a “Best Newcomer” at the 2007 Silver Clef Awards and Tartan Clef Awards, a “Best International Album” and “Best International Song” at the Swiss Music Awards, the “2008 Scottish Person of the Year” award from Daily Record and the “Best Newcomer International” at the 2009 Echo Awards.
